Kia Tasman ute previewed in Aussie wrap

The Kia Tasman ute has taken a turn with a special camouflage wrap designed by artist Richard Boyd-Dunlop, named ‘The Path Never Taken.’ This artistic twist on the usual black and white prototype camo also offers a glimpse into Kia’s entry into the competitive dual-cab ute market, set for launch in 2025.

Kia has joined forces with a ‘Tasman’ artist to craft a one-of-a-kind camouflage wrap, providing a sneak peek at the upcoming Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux rival. Alongside pictures of the model in its Australian-flavoured wrap, a video has also been released to whet the appetite of buyers looking to jump into the Korean carmaker’s first dual-cab ute (below).

Renowned artist Richard Boyd-Dunlop, hailing from New Zealand, is the mastermind behind the camouflage wrap. Inspired by his own journey across Australia, Boyd-Dunlop’s says, “These experiences are influential to my work, and the Tasman enabled me to create a continuation of this, depicting the connection, joy, and sheer sense of adventure that is inherent to Australian culture.”

Anticipating the Kia Tasman

With the confirmation of its upcoming ute being named the Tasman, Kia aims to establish a strong presence in the fiercely contested Australian market. Pitted against industry heavyweights such as the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max, and new Mitsubishi Triton, Kia has a lot of hard work ahead to make a mark.

Kia Tasman

To do so, the Kia Tasman is expected to boast benchmark capabilities, including a diesel turbo engine generating approximately 150kW and 500Nm, a braked towing capacity of 3500kg, a payload of around 1000kg, and low range 4×4 capabilities. Additionally, Kia will surely equip the Tasman with a comprehensive suite of safety systems to secure a five-star ANCAP rating, which will enable the potential for lucrative fleet sales.

Scheduled for its debut in 2025, the Kia Tasman targets key markets such as Australia, Korea, Africa, and the Middle East.
