Ford Australia launched its 2nd Car program which gives Ranger and Escape buyers, for a fee, access to a different Ford model for up to two weeks.

KEEPING IT IN THE FAMILY. Ford Australia has launched a pilot program in Australia called 2nd Car which offers Ford car buyers, or Blue Business Fleet buyers, the opportunity to borrow another Ford vehicle for up to two weeks.

When a customer purchases a new Ford Ranger or Escape, currently the only vehicles the program works with, for a fee of between $250-$750 those buyers will be able to gain access to a Ford Mustang (other models will be added to the program) for up to two weeks.

“2nd Car not only offers new Ford buyers a great car ownership experience, it also offers access to a great sharing experience,” said Christine Wagner, Program Manager, Ford 2nd Car. “We believe this program offers excellent value and flexibility – another reason to join the Ford family.”

Ford claims the program gives car buyers a glimpse into a possible future of how vehicle ownership might evolve. Ford added that its aim is to expand the program, a pilot that’s being trialled in Australia first and could be rolled out into other markets, so buyers will be able to access the entire Ford catalogue of vehicles.

Question: What do you think, does paying a small fee to get access to a second car for a short period seem like a good idea?
