The 2015 LZ Ford Focus range will debut EcoBoost engines, improved safety, styling tweaks and specification improvements when it goes on-sale in October.

THE 2015 LZ FORD FOCUS range will, for the first time, run EcoBoost engines when it goes on-sale in October. Standard across the range is a new 1.5-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost engine producing 132kW and 240Nm (more powerful than the 2.0L engine it replaces) and will be mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission – stop/start will be standard. Fuel consumption stretches from 5.8-6.4L/100km depending on the model – performance and fuel consumption is based on 95-98RON fuel.

The automatic transmission is standard on Trend Sedan and Titanium Hatch and Sedan and cost-optional on the Trend Hatch and Sport Hatch.

In addition to the new engine, the 2015 Focus gets a stiffer front-end, revised suspension, returned shock absorbers and tweaked electric power-assist steering and a re-calibrated stability control.

“Complementing the powerful EcoBoost technology is a stylish and sophisticated look and an enhanced list of standard features like voice-activated SYNC2 connectivity with 8-inch high-resolution colour screen, satellite navigation and rear view camera that will make the 2015 Focus a compelling reason for customers to put it on their shopping lists,” said Ford President and CEO, Graeme Whickman.

The 2015 Focus also offers Ford’s MyKey system (which allows parents to pre-set specific functions, like top speed, radio volume and more) as well as key driver assistance technology that has been standardised across select models.

Apart from the active and passive safety features available on the 2015 LZ Ford Focus, there are a range of new driver assistance features. Blind Spot Information System and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are new additions on the Focus Titanium, along with an enhanced Active City Stop system as standard. A standard feature on the Titanium Hatch and Sedan, Rear Cross Traffic Alert warns drivers reversing from parking spaces if other vehicles are about to cross their path.

On Titanium models Ford’s Active City Stop collision avoidance system has been enhanced and now operates at speeds of up to 50km/h. Active City Stop readies the brakes if a potential impact is detected and – if the driver does not respond – will automatically apply the brakes.

Also featuring on Titanium models is Enhanced Active Park Assist featuring Perpendicular Parking, which enables drivers to detect suitably-sized parallel parking spaces and reverse hands-free into spaces parallel to the road and side-to-side with other vehicles.

The crayon twirlers have tweaked the inside and outside of the new Focus, and the look now matches in with the Fiesta and Mondeo. It gets, for instance, new-look headlights, grille, bonnet and fog lights. The tail-gate has been reshaped while Sport and Titanium models get a bodykit which includes a large rear spoiler. Like the Mondeo, the aim on the inside of the Focus was to de-clutter the central stack, a new steering wheel has been fitted, too.
