Thieves have stolen a trailer load of JLR engines from its Solihull plant in the UK… twice with each theft taking just six minutes.
ACCORDING TO A newspaper report out of the UK, thieves driving a truck were somehow granted access to Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull Plant, where the Range Rover and Land Rover SUVs as well as the Jaguar XE are built.
The thieves clearly knew where they were going because they drove their truck straight to an area where engines were being loaded onto trailers. Unchallenged they hooked up a trailer full of engines and drove off… returning later and stealing another trailer load of engines. JLR hasn’t released the number of engines stolen, but the value is believed to be more than several million dollars.
According to papers in the UK, JLR hoped to keep the issue quiet… this is the second such time it has had to deal with thieves stealing engines. A similar theft occurred several years ago with the thieves convicted of their crime last year. They said they planned to strip the engines and sell them for parts.
It would be hard to think how the engines could be used in any other way than for parts. They certainly couldn’t be sold to a dealership, as the software running them is proprietary and the fact they were stolen would be discovered. A reward is being issued for information leading to their return.
