The updated Nissan Pathfinder range has grown to four variants with improved safety from entry and the debut of Nissan’s Rear Door Alert.

The updated Nissan Pathfinder has grown the range to four variants with the addition of the ST+ which drops in between the entry-level ST and the mid-spec ST-L. This variant adds a surround view monitor with Moving Object Detection, plus satellite navigation and picks up new active safety additions to the entry-level ST.

Indeed it’s the entry level ST where Nissan’s done the most work, trying to get its mid-size SUV to match key competitors, with the addition of autonomous emergency braking with forward collision warning, blind monitoring rear cross traffic alert and ‘intelligent’ cruise control as standard. And a Type C USB outlet has been added to the second row.

The ST-L already had all the previously mentioned active safety features but but has also been added to with adaptive LED headlights with auto-levelling, while the top-spec Nissan Pathfinder Ti adds Rear Door Alert and heated rear seats. Nissan’s Read Door Alert works in the same way Hyundai’s system does and alerts the driver to check the back seat. A warning message appears on the “Advanced Drive-Assist Display (ADAD) to prompt the driver to check the rear seat” once the rear doors have been opened and closed.

“If the driver walks away from the car – or locks the car – without opening a rear door the horn will sound three times and the ADAD screen will display a warning to check the back seat. This technology, and/or the horn, can be turned on and off as desired,” Nissan said.

The Nissan Pathfinder is available with a choice of two engines and in either front-wheel or on-demand all-wheel drive. Standard is a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine with 202kW and 340Nm of torque mated to a CVT. There is also a hybrid option featuring a supercharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor offering a 15km driving range with 188kW of power and 330Nm of torque available.
