Volkswagen Australia has tweaked the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan range reducing some of the “range complexity” and promised a special-edition Wolfsburg variant.

VOLKSWAGEN HAS RELEASED details on its updated 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan (five-seat) range with its two best-selling variants retained in a reduced line-up with the promise of a Wolfsburg Tiguan arriving with the rest of the updated range in October.

According to VW Australia, Tiguan buyers have “overwhelmingly opted for the two most powerful petrol engine variants with all-wheel-drive, so the MY19 range will initially consist of the 132 TSI Comfortline and the 162TSI Highline. Both deploy the class-leading EA888 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine run through a 7-speed DSG transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel-drive”.

Beyond these variants, VW has said that an entry-level 110TSI Tiguan will return to Australia once the brand has worked through its back-log of vehicles following the introduction of the new Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Protocol in Europe which requires a more real-world approach to fuel consumption and emissions testing.

Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles Product Marketing Manager Jeff Shafer said: “The MY19 Tiguan is now an even better buy than in 2016.

“The 162TSI Highline already comprises some 50 per cent of Tiguan sales. Up to 90 per cent of those customers take up the [cost-]optional R-Line package. 

“So devising the first Wolfsburg Edition of a Volkswagen medium SUV is very much a case of listening to what our customers want.”

Based on the 162TSI Highline, the Tiguan Wolfsburg Edition includes, as standard, the Sound & Vision and R-Line packages (see below), unique black exterior trim enhancements, 20-inch Black Suzuka Alloys, privacy glass and head-up display. Paint choices are Oryx White Pearlescent, Deep Black Pearl Effect or Indium Grey Metallic.
