Mini has teamed up with Italian company, Autohome, to offer a rooftop tent for the Mini Countryman, but will is be added to the local accessories list?

THE NEW MINI COUNTRYMAN is bigger and better than the car it replaces and now, four-odd years after it teased a concept Countryman with a rooftop tent, one is now available.

Designed in collaboration with Autohome and the Mini design team, the rooftop tent looks like a conventional roof box when packed away. Four gas struts raise the tent and it will sleep two adults.

Mini said, “The roof tent can be mounted onto the MINI roof rails [meaning any MINI with roof rails], which come as standard with the new MINI Countryman, without the use of tools in just a few easy moves.

“Inside, there is a high-density mattress with cotton cover, two doors and two windows with zips, close-meshed mosquito nets at all openings and a battery-operated LED interior light, as well as luggage nets and pockets to stow personal items. A solid aluminium ladder is provided to climb up onto the top floor of the MINI Countryman”.

At the time of publication, we hadn’t heard back from Mini Australia about whether it would offer the rooftop tent here. We’ll update this article as soon as we here back.
