According to Sky News in the UK, Jaguar Land Rover is poised to announce its joining the Formula E fray for 2016…

JAGUAR LAND ROVER WILL allegedly be announcing its entry into Formula E next week, according to a Sky News report. Jaguar Land Rover hasn’t commented on the report.

If Sky News is indeed correct this will be Jaguar’s first motorsport involvement since it exited Formula One in 2004. According to Sky News, JLR will be working on its race car with Williams Advanced Engineering, and its involvement could even extend to the autonomous race series planned as a support series for the Formula E Championship in 2016.

JLR has already revealed its autonomous technology with its remote controlled Range Rover and is increasingly teasing its move into electric propulsion, indeed it’s expected to reveal an all-electric rival to the Tesla Model X at the Paris Motor Show in 2016.

Sky News said the JLR announcement would be next Tuesday. Stay tuned.
