The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace is on-sale now from $40,490+ORC boasting a third-row of seats for those looking for a compact-ish occasional seven-seater.

THE VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN ALLSPACE has launched in Australia with pricing starting at $40,490+ORC. Unlike the recent announcement of the tweaking of the regular Tiguan range with the dropping of low-power and diesel variants, there’s a lot of variety in the Tiguan Allspace. Although, VW itself admits most buyers will flock to the 162TSI variant which is priced from $52,590+ORC.

Bigger version of the award-winning Tiguan, with 5+2 seating configuration.

Following the Skoda Kodiaq (also a seven-seater and on the same platform) to market here, the Tiguan Allspace offers both petrol and diesel engines and front-drive and all-wheel drive.

The most obvious differences between the Tiguan and the Allspace are the bigger rear door, a bonnet that rises slightly above the grille and a unique side window design. The Tiguan Allspace is bigger than the Tiguan, with an overall length of 4701mm (+215mm), as well as an additional 106mm more rear overhang, which allows for the addition of two seats in the third row offering storage space of 230 litres with all rows in use. The wheelbase is also 109mm longer than the Tiguan.

In terms of engines, the Allspace offers a 110kW/250Nm turbocharged petrol engine with a six-speed DSG and front-wheel drive, 132kW/320Nm turbocharged petrol engine with a seven-speed DSG and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, or 110kW/340Nm turbocharged diesel engine with a seven-speed DSG and 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The Highline grade offers two engines – the Golf GTI-derived 162kW/350Nm turbocharged petrol engine with seven-speed DSG and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, and a 140kW/400Nm turbo-diesel mated to a seven-speed DSG and 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
