The 2018 Mitsubishi ASX has been spied testing in the US alongside key competitors, Kia Sportage and the Ford Edge.

UK WEBSITE, AutoExpress has published images of the all-new 2018 Mitsubishi ASX testing in the US. According to reports, the ASX was seen testing alongside a Kia Sportage and Ford Edge.

Very little is known about the new ASX, but it is part of Mitsubishi’s plan to concentrate on SUVs which was outlined at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Despite the camouflage, the new ASX looks to have taken its design inspiration from the XR PHEV Concept.

We can expect the new ASX to be roomier inside, so it’ll either be slightly bigger all around than the current model, or a greater use of high-strenght lightweight steel will allow it to make body components thinner and eke out more interior space. Engines will likely get smaller and more fuel efficient and, while this is only speculation, a version of the Outlander PHEV’s hybrid drivetrain could appear.

AutoExpress is suggesting the new ASX will launch first in the US and that’s likely given the brand’s popularity there, that country’s love of SUVs, and Mitsubishi’s seeming planning priority to the US market. For instance, the Pajero has been dropped (which isn’t available in the US) from Mitsubishi’s future lineup.
