Photos of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner have been leaked online at Flywheel, giving the best look at the new-generation model.

FOLLOWING IN THE footsteps of Isuzu, Ford, and Holden, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner is a wagon-based version of the Toyota HiLux. And these grainy pictures leaked on Flywheel give us our best glimpse of the new model.

Toyota Australia has confirmed it will launch the Fortuner here early in 2016 following the launch in late 2015 of the new-generation Toyota HiLux, which will share the same front-end styling as the Fortuner. With the Kluger only available in petrol, the Fortuner will provide Toyota Australia with a diesel SUV to sit above the Kluger and below the Prado.

Like its key rivals, the Ford Everest, MU-X and the Colorado7, the Fortuner is a seven-seat wagon and will be built in Thailand alongside the HiLux. The current model Fortuner, which was never sold in Australia, was introduced in Thailand in 2004 as a replacement for the 4Runner.

Currently the Fortuner is available with a 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol, 3.0-litre turbo-diesel and 4.0-litre V6 petrol and can be had in both two- or four-wheel drive.

Toyota hasn’t mentioned pricing yet, but speculation suggests it’ll be priced from $40,000 upwards.
