Prototype electric Ford F-150 pulls 42 F-150s loaded onto 10 double-decker railway cars weighing almost 600,000kg.
In a stunt designed to both celebrate 42 years of the Ford F-150 as the best-selling pick-up in the US and hint at the future of the big truck, Ford has used a prototype all-electric F-150 to tow almost 600,000kg.
In a short statement accompanying the video, Ford said: “Ford has confirmed it will bring an all-electric F-150 to market. This will be in addition to the all-new F-150 Hybrid that goes on sale next year. Both electrified models will have the toughness, capability and innovation that F-150 customers have come to expect”.
Ford has invested heavily in electric-vehicle maker Rivian which has teased its all-electric pick-up and SUV and has an all-electric platform that Ford will use for electric passenger vehicles. While it hasn’t been confirmed, there’s a fair chance the platform underneath the electric F-150 in this stunt is from Rivian.
The video shows, F-150 chief engineer, Linda Zhang first pulling the empty freight cars with the electric prototype and then load it up with the 42 F-150s.
