Toyota has announced a global recall for Toyota RAV4 built and sold between 2005 and 2012 with 2.87 million vehicles involved worldwide.
TOYOTA HAS announced a global recall for Toyota RAV4 built between 2005 and 2012 due to the possibility the outer seatbelts can become cut by the seat cushion frame when excessive pressure is exerted on them. Toyota said: “In the event of a high-speed frontal collision, there is a possibility that the seatbelt webbing could contact a portion of the metal seat cushion frame, become cut and separate”.
Around the world, Toyota is recalling 2.87 million RAV4s with the US the largest affected market with 1.3 million units being recalled. There are 625,000 in Europe, 434,000 in China, 177,000 from Japan, and 370,000 units from other areas, including Australia where 98,000 vehicles are affected.
Toyota has said it’s written to owners advising them of the issue, and will follow up with a letter once the parts are in stock. All recall work will be carried out free-of-charge. The recall work with take 60 minutes to complete and Toyota has estimated it will be able to complete the recall work by June.
Because the recall affects older vehicles there’s a chance the original owner might have sold the vehicle.
