Updated 2017 Range Rover Sport gets twin-turbo Ingenium engine

The updated 2017 Range Rover will arrive in Australia early next year with the choice of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel.

THE UPDATED 2017 Range Rover is down-sizing its engine, with the refreshed RR Sport, which arrives here early next year, available with the Jaguar Land Rover Ingenium engine. This is the same engine that’s available in the Discovery Sport, Jaguar XE and F-Pace; it will also appear in the next-generation Discovery.

Like the Range Rover itself, the new Sport will offer a raft of key updates, including Advanced Tow Assist, Blind Spot monitoring, Low Traction Assist and a bigger dual-view 10-inch touchscreen powered by Jaguar Land Rover’s InControl Touch Pro system.

But it’s the new 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel Ingenium engine that’s the headline grabber here. Offering a combined fuel consumption of 6.2L/100km, the new engine produces 177kW and 500Nm and replaces the previous model’s TDV6 S engine. It’s available on vehicles running either coil or air suspension.

Safety has also been upgraded with the new Range Rover Sport available as standard with Rear Park Distance Control, Cruise Control, Speed Limiter and Lane Departure Warning, and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). The cost-optional Drive Pro Pack includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Queue Assist and Intelligent Emergency Braking and adds Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keep Assist.

Key exterior tweaks include some exterior features finished in Gloss Black, an updated readiator grille with side vents, bonnet vents and mirror caps. Dynamic models are distinguished via a red Sport badge and matching red brake calipers. A new Bright Pack will be offered as an option on Autobiography Dynamic models. It brings a more vivid finish, with features such as Atlas Silver front grille mesh and Atlas Silver bonnet mesh.
