Mazda has announced it will reveal its 2015 Mazda2 sedan to the world on November 28 at the Thailand International Motor Expo – on Mazda Australia’s wishlist.

MAZDA WILL debut the all-new 2015 Mazda2 sedan at the Thailand International Motor Expo on 28 November ahead of the vehicle’s launch in that country early in 2015. While Mazda hasn’t said what other markets it will sell the Mazda2 sedan in, Mazda Australia has hinted it’s discussing selling the Mazda2 sedan with dealers.

“It’s very much under consideration for Australia,” Mr Benders told GoAuto at the Los Angeles Motor Show. “But of course we’ll continue speaking to the dealers and go through the usual processes before we make any decision on the sedan.”

There’s good reason why Thailand will get both examples of the 2015 Mazda2 (hatch and sedan), it’s the best-selling passenger vehicle in that market with 120,000 units sold since it was introduced in 2010. The Mazda2 sedan will go on-sale in Thailand powered by Mazda’s new small-displacement diesel engine, the SkyActiv 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel.

While sedan versions of hatchback models can sometimes look a little awkward, the Mazda2 sedan comes of looking like a model in its own right rather than a derivative. And while it’s being called a sedan it looks more like a notchback.
