Limited-edition Toyota 86 14R60 revealed
Toyota has released the limited-edition Toyota 86 14R60 for the Japan market only. So, you can look, but you can’t have…
TOYOTA HAS JUST taken the covers off a very-limited-edition Toyota 86. Meet the 86 14R600 and there’s a good chance this picture is about as close as you’ll get to it. According to reports, only 100 will be built and they are exclusively for the Japanese Domestic Market.
Based on the 86 TRD Griffon Concept and built by Toyota Techno Craft ( a subsidiary of Toyota Racing Development – TRD), the 14R60 is toned down but still more aggressive looking than the standard 86. The front and rear bumpers have been modified, there are new side skirts (heavily based on the concept car), there’s also a rear wing and 18-inch forged magnesium alloy wheels (brakes have been upgraded).
Apparently, despite improvements to engine breathing (high-flow air filter, air intake and an auxiliary oil cooler) power and torque for the standard naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder remains unchanged.
Don’t despair, though, this isn’t just a cosmetic enhancement, nope, the Toyota 86 14R60 gets an upgraded six-speed manual transmission, a lighter flywheel and a high-performance clutch. It also gets a strut tower brace, a boot-mounted V-brace, adjustable suspension with revised bushings, and a limited-slip rear differential.
