Images allegedly showing a face-lifted Mazda6 (Atenza) have leaked online via a French automotive forum.

PICTURES SHOWING a face-lifted Mazda6 (Atenza) have surfaced online overnight via, of all places, a French automotive forum. And while it seems a little soon for a refresh, the pictures of this new Mazda6 are reportedly taken from a sales handbook for the refreshed model. The post on the French forum suggests it’s a Japan-only refresh…

The differences are subtle but intended to bring the Mazda6 in line with the latest Mazda2 which has recently been launched around the world. You can see the differences in the comparison pic below, but chief amongst them is the new-look chrome grille surround which sweeps around and into the headlights. The driving lights (fog lights) have also received some chrome accents, very similar to that of the Mazda2.

The interior now gets a freestanding MZD unit as per the Mazda2 and Mazda3, and the gearshift and electric parkbrake have been redesigned, seemingly allowing for more storage space. Overall, the interior takes on a more premium look and feel, and it’s the inside of the Mazda6 that was most in need of updating.

Although it’s only a few years old, the current Mazda6’s interior feels dated compared with newer product in the Mazda stable. There’s no word on mechanical changes, but we doubt the Mazda6 needs any as it currently runs the latest generation SKYACTIV engines.
