Driverless Audi RS 7 Sportback to race at Hockenheim

Audi will run a demonstration lap of the Hockenheim race track with a driverless Audi RS 7 Sportback, claiming it’ll run at “racing speed”. You’ll be able to watch it live on the internet.

AUDI HAS announced it will showcase a driverless Audi RS 7 Sportback at the season finale of the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) on Sunday, October 19. The Audi RS 7 piloted driving concept (Audi refers to its driverless cars as ‘pilioted’) will conduct one lap of the Hockenheim race track at “racing speed”.

In a short statement, Audi said: “With the latest Audi developments on board, the technology platform will drive to its physical limits with millimetre-perfect precision. In the process, it will be approximately as fast as with a professional race car driver at the wheel.

“Tests conducted so far indicate that on the Grand Prix track, a lap time of just over two minutes can be expected, and on this course, the technology platform should reach speeds of up to 240km/h,” a statement read.

Audi will broadcast the event live on the Internet on Sunday, October 19 at 9.45pm (AEDST). To watch the broadcast, click here.
