Victoria Police have taken possession of a 460kW BMW M5 Competition as a highway patrol vehicle.

Victoria Police have taken possession of Australia’s fastest operational police vehicle, the BMW M5 Competition which has a top-speed of 305km/h and will 100km/h from rest in just 3.3 seconds. It’s unclear from the announcement whether Victoria Police will receive more M5s, which offer a 4.4-litre V8 and all-wheel drive.

“Since co-operating in the deployment of BMW 5 Series patrol vehicles in 2018, BMW Group Australia has enjoyed working closely with Victoria Police,” said BMW Group Australia CEO, Vikram Pawah.

“Our 530ds have impressed the force with their combination of performance, comfort, dynamics and efficiency. With our Condition-Based Servicing model, these vehicles offer strong lifecycle value for Victoria Police.

“Now with the incredible BMW M5 Competition entering Victoria Police service, the performance level has jumped up the scale. When combined with the safety of the xDrive four-wheel drive system, the M5’s all-round ability aspects makes it a natural fit for dynamic police duties,” he said.
