The 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero will get iOS and Android connectivity when it launches in Europe later this year.

FOLLOWING A NEWS report last week where Mitsubishi UK boss, Lance Bradley said the next-generation Pajero would get plug-in hybrid technology, comes the announcement that a new Pajero will be revealed in the European summer. According to a very short press statement from Mitsubishi Europe, the 2016 Pajero (2015 model pictured) will be launched later this year with both iOS and Android connectivity via Mitsubishi’s Smartphone Link Display Audio.

“This will be the first MMC model to be fitted with this system and MMC will sequentially expand the models and regions it will be available,” Mitsubishi said.

“SDA allows users of either Android smartphones or iPhones to connect to the dashboard display using a USB cable. The system is designed to prioritize allowing the driver, either by using the touchscreen or by voice control to safely and simply:

•access navigation and other apps on their smartphone

•make and receive phone calls,

•send and receive text messages and

•listen to music, etc.

“Moreover, using the latest map information from the smartphone, updating map information for the car’s navigation system becomes unnecessary.”

It’s not suggested whether the 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero will be an all-new model, just that it will be the first model to feature this new connectivity. When Practical Motoring spoke with Mitsubishi Australia about the new Pajero we were told that it was too early to discuss the new model. So, based on that, it’s reasonable to speculate that the 2016 model is likely to be an update with an all-new model arriving in 2017. Or, perhaps we will indeed see a new model later this year. We’ve left a message with Mitsubishi Australia and will update this article when we hear back.
