2016 Kia Sportage and Optima revealed
The 2016 Kia Sportage and all-new Kia Optima (in European specification) have been revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
THE 2016 KIA SPORTAGE has made its global reveal today at the Frankfurt Motor Show while the Kia Optima, which was seen earlier this year, has been revealed today in European specification. Kia also showed off an all-new 1.0-litre T-GDI (turbo gasoline direct injection) engine and the brand’s newly-developed seven-speed DCT (double-clutch transmission), which has been designed to handle higher torque loads.
Kia already revealed details on the new Sportage a few weeks ago, and you can read more about it HERE, but suffice it to say we’re not totally sold on the new look front-end. It’s bigger on the inside and promises to be the most technologically advanced Sportage yet.
According to Kia, “A range of new and updated engines and transmissions will result in enhanced efficiency and performance, while ride, handling and refinement are all improved”. As we’ve already reported, the new Sportage is already here in Australia undergoing ride and handling testing; the local version of the vehicle will get an Australia-specific suspension and steering tune.
“The all-new Optima builds on the worldwide success of the existing model, with a modern, new exterior, a bold interior design with more space for all occupants, an array of new technologies and a wide choice of efficient powertrains,” according to Kia.
The Optima was revealed earlier this year, but this is the vehicle’s first outing in Europe where it will go on-sale towards the end of this year. Kia has confirmed the Optima will be joined by a performance-oriented GT version and a SPORTSPACE inspired variant, likely to be a wagon.
