General Motors and Russian partner, AvtoVAZ have unveiled the 2016 Chevrolet Niva at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show.

THE 2016 CHEVROLET NIVA has been unveiled overnight at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show and General Motors didn’t reveal much more than we already knew. At least, this time, the images are a bit clearer.

Inspired by the new tagline ‘Find New Roads – If No Roads, Niva Them’, the 2016 Chevrolet Niva show car is a firm hint at what Russians can expect from the production Niva (a joint venture between GM Chevrolet and AvtoVAZ) when it arrives in the middle of 2016.

Under the bonnet will be a 1.8-litre four-cylinder that boasts (100kW) and 30% more torque than the current generation Niva. This is mated to a five-speed transmission and and gets power to the ground via a permanent all-wheel drive system with differential lock and while the current Lada Niva is offered with high- and low-range, it’s unknown whether the 2016 variant will follow suit.

Inside, the show car boast Bluetooth connectivity, plenty of chrome trim and a modern-looking interior that borrows from other GM models; it also offers a compass and outside temperature display.

Additional equipment on this motor show version includes a snorkel, a bash plate under the front, a roof rack with attached spare wheel (there’s also one at the back) and 16-inch wheels with BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain tyres.
