A modified Mini JCW has become (unofficially) the fastest front-wheel drive car around the Nürburgring, setting a lap time of 7min 44secs. Watch the video.

GERMAN AUTOMOTIVE magazine Sport Auto has taken a modified Mini JCW around the Nürburgring and set an unofficial record for front-wheel drive vehicles. Modified by Schirra Motoring in Germany, the modded Mini (called Mini JCW GTS) produces 213kW and received a Drexler limited-slip differential, KW coilover suspension and new rubber (Dunlop Direzza 03G). It lapped the infamous Nürbirgring Nordschleiffe in 7min 44sec.

Although the Mini JCW GTS is street legal it is modified from standard and so its record won’t be considered official. For the record, it lapped the circuit a full 10 seconds quicker than the current record holder, the Renaul Megane RS 275 Trophy-R.
