Volkswagen Tiguan 110TSI returns to showrooms, priced from $34,150.
Volkswagen Australia has re-introduced the 110TSI Tiguan SUV after almost 18 months hiatus, cementing again an affordable footing to the German brand’s medium-size SUV line-up.
Available in both five- and seven-seat configurations, the Tiguan 110TSI comes powered by a smaller 1.4-litre turbo engine, producing 110kW and 250Nm to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The result is that the five-seat Tiguan 110TSI Trendline is priced from $34,150, and the 110TSI Comfortline with extra kit comes in at $38,650. The seven-seat 110TSI Comfortline Allspace is priced at $40,150.
Entry-spec Trendline comes equipped as standard with fabric trim, 17-inch alloy wheels, black roof rails, 8.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, AEB (automatic emergency braking) with pedestrian detection and lane assist.
Comfortline models add 18-inch alloys, chrome roof rails, chrome exterior trims, electric tailgate, electric folding side mirrors, keyless entry with push-start ignition, overhead storage and three-zone climate control.
Further automated driving aids are available for all models via the Driver Assistance Package ($1600 Comfortline, $1700 Trendline) which includes adaptive cruise control with traffic follow, automatic high beam and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
Sound & Vision Package is available for an additional $3200 and it brings a digital instrument display for the driver, Dynaudio Excite sound system, 360-degree camera and ambient interior lighting.
Finally, the Luxury Package at $4000 adds Vienna leather upholstery, heated fronts seats, electric seat adjustment and a panoramic sunroof.
Volkswagen is predicting the new entry-level Tiguan variants will be attractive to SUV shoppers and strengthen the brand’s hold on the segment.
“The return of our most affordable SUV for the moment means that the leading vehicle of its type is once more available at all price points in its segment,” said director of customer experience and marketing for Volkswagen Australia, Jason Bradshaw.
“With the imminent arrival of the broader Touareg range to be followed early next year by the T-Cross and T-Roc, Volkswagen’s SUV family will be completed. Volkswagen has substantially retained its market share despite massive constraints on the supply of current model SUVs and long waiting lists for new models.”
