The all-new Lister Thunder can hit 100km/h in 3.0 seconds and it’ll be revealed to the public at the Historic Motorsport International show in London in mid-February.
LISTER IS A NAME from the history books, and the Lister Thunder is the brand’s first all-new vehicle in forever. Only 99 Thunders will be built and the sticker price hasn’t been revealed; expect it to be high, though.
If you’re looking at the pics and thinking, hmm, this looks familiar, well, that’s because it is. The Thunder is based on the current Jaguar F-Type which makes for an easier starting point in the engineering process, but is also a nod to history. See, Lister and Jaguar have shared heritage; Lister built its own racer off the Jaguar D-Type which was raced by Sir Stirling Moss in the 1950s. The Lister Storm, in 2000, also borrowed a Jaguar V12 and won the FIA World GT Championships that year.
Lister is keeping details a secret for now, although it has let slip that the Jaguar’s V8 has been tweaked to produce 666bhp or more than 490kW. The Lister Thunder will be revealed in full at the London Historic Motorsport International on 15-18 February.
“We came to HMI last year and it was one of the very best shows we have ever attended – we sold a car for more than a quarter of a million pounds whilst on the stand!” said an understandably delighted Lawrence Whittaker, CEO of the revitalised Lister Motor Company. “That is why we have chosen this year’s follow-up event to launch the Lister Thunder, which will mark the first car from our revised Jaguar tuning programme.
“Like Brabus with Mercedes and Alpina with BMW, we are hoping to become synonymous, once again, with tuning Jaguar vehicles, giving customers new enhanced bespoke performance and design alternatives. Lister has a Jaguar tuning heritage dating back 60 years and the new Lister Thunder is the fastest and most powerful Lister ever created with a 208mph top speed and 0-60 time of 3.1 seconds. We can’t wait for the world to see it!”
