2017 Honda HR-V gets equipment upgrade ahead of new model… prices on hold
Following Mazda’s light CX-3 update, Honda has announced it’s adding sat-nav across its 2017 HR-V range.
HONDA’S SMALL SUV, the HR-V, which sits behind the Mazda CX-3 and Mitsubishi ASX in overall sales, will now come with satellite navigation as standard across the range. Pricing will remain the same, however, from $24,990 (+ORC) for base model VTi up to $34,340 (+ORC) for top-spec VTi-L with ADAS (advanced driver assist system).
Previously, the VTi and VTi-S models missed out on the feature. Honda claims the addition of satellite navigation comes in alongside an “updated audio system with 7.0-inch colour touchscreen”, although a 7.0-inch touchscreen was standard across the range already.
While Honda’s 2017 HR-V update feels similar to Mazda’s minor CX-3 change, which saw prices increase, the CX-3 now comes with AEB as standard across the range. But for HR-V, it still remains only available in the top-spec VTi-L with ADAS.

It probably isn’t going to upset private sales for the HR-V, however, which has been leading the segment according to Honda Australia director, Stephen Collins: “Not only has the HR-V been the top selling model in the Honda range for the past two years, but it is also one of the top selling small SUVs on the market, consistently ranking in the top three sellers in what continues to be an ultra-competitive segment,” he said.
“But more importantly for the Honda Australia business, HR-V continues to strike a chord with private buyers, where it leads the Small SUV segment with almost 83 per cent of its total sales over the past 12 months coming from the private sector.”
The HR-V is now over two years old here and is due for a facelift, expected sometime next year. For now, all other equipment and spec remains the same and it is still powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol with 105kW/172Nm and CVT the only transmission available.
The updated 2017 HR-Vs are expected to hit showrooms by the end of this month.
