Is Suzuki iM-4 concept an all-new Jimny?

Suzuki will reveal its iM-4 and iK-2 concepts in March and we reckon the Suzuki iM-4 concept might be an all-new Jimny…

SUZUKI ISN’T SAYING much about its two concept cars, but we do know that both of them are already slated for production from 2016. The iK-2 concept previews a new Ford Focus-sized vehicle and is larger than the current and off-to-a-bad-start Celerio.

Suzuki says, “The iK-2 is an ideal compact sized car, developed with an innovative theme of “Harmonised Force”. By combining all of the key elements expected in a car of this size the new model raises compact car values to the limit”.

However, it’s the iM-4 we’re most interested in as it seems to hint at a much-needed revamp of the iconic Jimny 4WD. Likely to be based on the Suzuki Swift and slot in beneath the SV-4, Suzuki says “The iM-4 is an iconic mini 4×4 developed with a concept theme of “Shape the Inspiration”. It is an all-new proposal from Suzuki, packed with its compact 4×4 DNA and new technologies as well as distinctive styling that will give real inspiration to drivers”.

While the short statement suggests it’s an ‘all-new proposal’ we’re interpreting that to mean the Jimny will go from being a bare-bones compact 4WD to one that’s better able to cut it in the competitive compact SUV segment.

More information will be revealed in the coming weeks.
