Sit beside Hyundai’s WRC driver Dani Sordo thanks to virtual reality as he hammers a 2015 i20 WRC, all from your smartphone. Sort of.

GOT A SMARTPHONE? If you answer yes then the ride of your life (okay I’ve got my tongue in my cheek) is right at your finger tips. Almost. Overnight, Hyundai released its virtual reality app which it calls Hyundai VR+, it allows smartphone users a full 360-degree insight into “the speed and excitement of being part of Hyundai Shell World Rally Team”.

The app is available for free on iOS (requires iPhone5 or higher) and Android devices (v4.1 or higher), but requires the bolt-on of a VR dive device for the full immersive experience. The release of the app coincides with the first round of the 2015 FIA World Rally Championship which starts on Thursday 22 January in Monte Carlo.

The app offers: “a Virtual Reality (VR+) or 360-degree panoramic view play function from the co-driver seat of the Hyundai Shell World Rally Team driver, Dani Sordo,” as well as a general perspective of the drive.

Gyoo Heon Choi, President of Hyundai Motorsport said: “We hope through this ‘Hyundai VR+’ App that anyone can enjoy a thrilling i20 WRC in-car ride, all through a conventional smartphone. More VR contents are soon to be uploaded and Hyundai Motorsport rally fans will be able to enjoy even more in the future.”
