Proton has revealed an Exora-based Pick-Up Concept at the Alami Proton Carnival 2015 last weekend, although sadly there are no concrete production plans for now.

PROTON USED TO offer the front-wheel drive Jumbuck ute and now it looks to be dipping a toe back into the water with the reveal of its Pick-Up Concept. But before you get your hopes up, Proton’s design boss, Azlan Othman told Malaysian website paultan.org that, “Looking how successful the Jumbuck was, there’s no reason for us not to look at segments where we were once profitable”. He also said there were no production plans. For now.

The Pick-Up Concept is based on Proton’s people mover, the Exora which is front-wheel drive only, as is this concept. While most utes are built on ladder frames, this Pick-Up Concept, if it went into production would be in same vein, meaning a monocoque chassis, as the Honda Ridgeline or even our own Commodore Ute.

The bonnet looks to have been inspired by the Ford F-150 Raptor as has the grille, with only the long strip through the middle of it muddying the look. The ute bed look similar to the Ssangyong Actyon and, being a front-drive ute, the carrying capacity wouldn’t be huge. Mostly, though, the body is just a chopped up Exora.

So, what do you think, do you like the look of the Proton Pick-Up Concept?
