Pirtek reunites with Marcos Ambrose for Sydney 500

Pirtek has signed on to sponsor Dick Johnson Racing for the NRMA Sydney 500 to celebrate the return of two-time V8 Supercars champions Marcos Ambrose.

PIRTEK HAS SIGNED on as a sponsor with Dick Johnson Racing to reunite with Marcos Ambrose who makes his return to V8 Supercars at the NRMA Sydney 500 on December 5-7. In a statement to the media today, Pirtek has likened the arrangement to the Blues Brothers movie, and “getting the band back together”.

Pirtek was the naming rights sponsor on Ambrose’s car during his six seasons with Stone Brothers Racing in the V8 Supercar Championship Series (2000-2005). Ambrose won championships in 2003-04 before heading to the US at the end of the 2005 season to pursue a career in NASCAR.

Ambrose – who finished his NASCAR season just Monday morning Australian time is thrilled to have Pirtek involved in his return to V8 Supercars. “I guess you could say the “band is back together” and I could not be happier,” said Ambrose.

“The support of Pirtek when I came into V8 Supercars as a rookie was humbling. Pirtek and its franchise network really gave me my shot.

“I was able to reward them with a couple of Championships, but the friendships we forged in those years have been lasting and it’s terrific to come back to Australia and have them involved as we roll the car out of the truck for the first time.”

“Pirtek has obviously had some outstanding success with Marcos in V8 Supercars previously and we are looking forward to being involved with him on his return in Sydney next month,” said Pirtek CEO, Stephen Dutton.

“2015 also provides opportunity and we will continue to work through our options, but our first focus is Marcos in Sydney and what should be a terrific event with plenty of interest from sporting fans around the world.”

According to Pirtek, any announcements regarding the new DJR Team Penske and Pirtek for the 2015 season will be made closer to the end of the year. Watch this space.
