The all-new 2017 Subaru Impreza will become the first model from the maker to get a pedestrian airbag.

THE ALL-NEW Subaru Impreza will get “comprehensive safety performance” which includes the latest EyeSight system (Version 3) a pedestrian airbag and “danger avoidance performance” will be improved, Suabru said, because of its new platform.

What’s not clear is whether Subaru is suggesting that new platform will provide improved crash safety performance, which it’s previously said it would, or whether it’s suggesting the new Impreza will debut enhanced crash avoidance systems. It’s difficult to be certain of the meaning due to the translation of the release.

Practical Motoring went to Subaru Australia and asked whether the bonnet airbag would be available on Australian models, but the local team declined to comment saying only that final specification for Australian cars would be announced closer to he local launch at the end of the year.

In Japan, there’s a teaser site for the new Impreza and if someone can translate Japanese into English, do let us know what the site says in the comments section.
