Lexus RC F GT Concept to take on Pikes Peak
The all-new Lexus RC F GT Concept will compete at this weekend’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in the Time Attack category.
THE LEXUS RC F GT CONCEPT follows in the wheel tracks of the IS F CCS-R that competed at Pikes Peak in 2013. The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is being held this weekend at Colorado Springs in the US (28 June). 24 Hour Le Mans winner Justin Bell will take the wheel for Pikes Peak.
Bell said: ”With very little time behind the wheel, the RC F GT Concept has already proven fast and easy to drive, very much like the production models”.
“We expect the race car will only pick up pace as we engage more testing, tuning and data acquisition on the mountain,” he said.
The RC F GT Concept incorporates a high level of composite materials, contributing to weight savings of more than 360 kilograms compared with the road-going RC F. It retains the same 5.0-litre V8 engine and eight-speed transmission as the road vehicle, albeit with states of tune adjusted for competition.
This year marks the 93rd running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. It runs on a highly demanding 19.9-kilometre course with 156 turns that begins at 2862 metres before finishing at the 4300-metre Pikes Peak summit.
