Kia has revealed it will name its new compact SUV, Kia Seltos after the legendary son of Hercules, Celtos…

Kia has played a little loose with Greek mythology naming its new compact SUV, Seltos, after the legendary son of Hercules, Celtos. Kia claims replacing the ‘C’ with ‘S’ not only brings the Seltos in line with its other SUVs, Sportage and Sorento, but hints at “speed and sportiness”.

Kia will reveal the Seltos in full later this month, but in announcing the name of the thing, said: “The Seltos has been created for the millennial generation, standing apart from its rivals with a combination of sophisticated, sporty design and the space and capabilities of a traditional SUV – all in a compact package”.

Kia is still keeping relatively quiet about the Seltos, saying that it’ll be aimed at those wanting technology at their finger tips and a premium package at a reasonable price. We do know, however, the Seltos shares its platform with the Hyundai Venue and that thing looks to be one of the more sophisticated models in the segment.

Kia said in its statement, “The Seltos offers sophisticated exterior design details, such as its long hood, a strong, character line on the front bumper, and sharp lines pressed into the bodywork. Its robust shoulder line, matched with a glasshouse which tapers towards the rear of the car, as well as a rear bumper with a metallic muffler effect, lends the compact SUV an air of understated sportiness”.
