2019 i30 Fastback N revealed – here early in 2019

The 2019 i30 Fastback N has been revealed ahead of its global debut at the Paris Motor Show in October…locally, we’ll see it in early 2019.

The 2019 i30 Fastback N has been revealed and will arrive in Australia early in 2019, joining the hatchback i30 N. This is the second N-specific model to launch from Hyundai’s N-Performance arm.

Read Paul Horrell’s review of the i30 Fastback.

“The new i30 Fastback N wraps the stunning high-performance capability and immense driver appeal of the i30 N in a newly sporty five-door GT coupe shape,” Hyundai said in a statement.

The fastback version carries many of the hallmarks of the hatchback, from the N grille, front and rear bumpers and blacked-out side sill. While the aim of the N brand is to produce performance vehicles this still must marry the parent company’s aims of building practical vehicles. Hence, the boot offers 450-litres of storage which expands to 1351 litres with the back seats folded down.

In Europe, there are two versions of the Fastback N available, which is the same as the hatchback N, but locally we’ll likely only see the more powerful variant, which sees the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder make 202kW and 353Nm with an overboost bump to 378Nm. This sees the thing hit 100km/h in 6.1 seconds. Like the hatchback, the fastback has been tweaked by a team of Australian engineers.

Features mirror the hatchback and include an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with sat-nav and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and, of course the N mode app which allows you to deep dive and tune the car to suit your tastes.

Expect to see the Fastback N mirror the hatchback for safety features too, like Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Driver-Attention Warning, Lane-Keeping Assist, High-Beam Assist and Intelligent Speed-Limit Warning.

Stay tuned for pricing and final features closer to the local release of the i30 Fastback N.
