A video on YouTube shows the front, side and rear of a prototype Mercedes-Benz ute, which is based on the Nissan NP300 Navara and will launch in 2018.

DETAILS ARE STILL thin on the ground when it comes to the upcoming Mercedes-Benz ute which some outlets are speculating will be called GLT. But, a video has surfaced on YouTube giving us a good look at the Nissan NP300 Navara-based ute. This donor has also served as the basis of the Renault Alaskan.

Mercedes-Benz hinted at the time that its first-ever ute, which will launch under its commercial vehicles range, will ride like a Mercedes, suggesting that it won’t just be a styling exercise. And that’s a good thing, because the Nissan NP300 Navara isn’t well regarded for its too-soft ride and slack steering.

Like the Navara, the Mercedes ute will offer a range of body styles and, at the top end, will likely be priced higher than key competitors from Ford, Volkswagen and Toyota. And, like those brands, the top-spec model is expected to be aimed more at lifestyle consumers than tradesmen.
