The 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider has been confirmed for Australia and will go on-sale here in November.

THE 2015 ALFA ROMEO 4C Spider will join the recently released hardtop 4C when it goes on-sale in November.

“The all-new 4C Spider builds on Alfa Romeo’s proud heritage of motorsport success and cutting-edge technology, offering an open-air driving experience that is pure excitement,” said FCA Australia President and CEO Pat Dougherty.

“A true convertible supercar, the 4C Spider delivers open-topped thrills without rival.”

The main difference between the 4C and 4C Spider is the Spider’s soft-top. That means, the same 177kW and 350Nm from the all-aluminium 1750 turbocharged and intercede four-cylinder engine. The two-seat only 4C Spider gets leather seats with exposed carbon-fibre monocoque that “exemplifies its race-inspired technologies”. Furthermore, a “driver-oriented cockpit” with flat-bottom, leather performance steering wheel with paddle-shifters and aluminum pedals speak to the brand’s racing spirit.

Local pricing for the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider will be announced closer to the local launch in November, as will specifications.  In the meantime we know from overseas models that the car follows the classic sportscar design of mid-engine, rear-drive.   The motor is good for 177kW with 350Nm, and the only transmission choice is a 6-speed dual-clutch (DSG) automatic with paddleshifts.   The length is a mere 3989mm – shorter than a Toyota 86 or a BMW 220 – and it is a featherweight 895kg, a figure that even Lotus would be proud of.   And it’s just 1183mm tall!  The important figure is 0-100 which is a rather quick 4.5 seconds.  All up, this promises to be one of the most hotly anticipated performance cars, and that’s just the looks!
