Volkswagen has updated its 2014 Scirocco R copping styling and specification changes only … as they say, if it ain’t broke…

VOLKSWAGEN’S REVISED third-generation Scirocco R has arrived in Australia. Sitting between the Golf GTI and the Golf R the revised Scirocco R sees some cosmetic and specification improvements. The engine has been carried over although Volkswagen says it’s copped some minor revisions to improve torque spread.

The ‘new’ Scirocco R has had new head- and tail-lights fitted along with tweaks to the front and rear bumpers. Indeed, at the front it now gets ‘aerodynamic blades’ similar to those on the Golf GTI, with integrated indicator LED lights.

Revised 2014 Volkswagen Scirocco R released

Inside, the dashboard has been updated, with new-look dials and an auxiliary instrument cluster above the centre console, consisting of a chronometer, charge pressure and oil temperature gauges – a tribute to the original 1974 model (yep, the Scirocco nameplate is 40 years old this year). The Scirocco R now gets front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera as standard.

One of the less obvious revisions introduced on the 2014 Scirocco R is that the Volkswagen badge on the tailgate now functions as a handle.
The Scirocco R is a four-seater only with front headroom of 953mm and rear headroom of 924mm. The rear seats can also be split (50:50) and folded to increase cargo space when necessary. A maximum of 1006 litres is available in the Scirocco (with the rear seats folded down).

As mentioned, the Scirocco R carries over its engine which is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder producing 188kW (at 6000rpm) and 330Nm of torque (from 2400-5200rpm). The Scirocco R once again is available with either a six-speed manual or dual clutch DSG transmission.
