Stolen Jaguar XKE to be returned to owner after 46 years
A 1967 Jaguar XKE stolen and missing for 46 years has been recovered in a shipping container bound for the Netherlands and will be returned to its original owner.
US CUSTOMS AND BORDER protection (CBP) have recovered a 1967 Jaguar XKE missing for 47 years. It will be reunited with its owner, Ivan Schneider, who’s described the discovery as a “miracle”. Stolen 46 years ago in New York, the white (originally Bullet Grey) 1967 Jaguar XKE was discovered by an eagle-eyed customs official while processing the vehicle’s export paperwork – the classic Jaguar was being sent to the Netherlands along with four other stolen vehicles (a 1969 blue Chevrolet Corvette, a 1976 Mercedes-Benz 280, 2007 Mercedes E350, and a 2014 red Chevrolet Camaro ZL1).
The Jaguar’s original owner, Schneider, now living in Florida said: “This is just a miracle, a miracle. I was 36 years old then [when the vehicle was stolen in 1968] and now I’m 82. It was my first good car and favorite […] I bought it brand new. I had it less than a year. I’m going to restore it”.
When Schneider purchased the 1967 Jaguar XKE convertible it was priced at USD$5000 while today, due to its unloved condition, it’s value has been estimated at around USD$24,000 (or AUD$26,000). However, Jaguar XKEs in good condition have sold in excess of $100,000.
Good god this is one of the most poorly written pieces of ‘journalism’ I’ve read in some time.
Hi KSD, my mistake, the article was published before being subbed. All fixed. Cheers, Isaac (Editor)
Well done PM. This re-written version is a vast improvement.
Thanks KSD. Isaac
