Tesla Model 3 and Audi A6 score 5 stars from ANCAP
Both the Tesla Model 3 and Audi A6 have scored five-star ratings from ANCAP after the local crash tester assessed EuroNCAP results.
The Tesla Model 3 and the Audi A6 (excluding the S6) both performed well in Euro NCAP tests which has resulted in ANCAP awarding both vehicles a five-star rating.
The Model 3 realised 96 percent for Adult Occupant Protection with full marks achieved “for the driver in three of four destructive crash tests. Full points were also scored by the front passenger in the frontal offset test which simulates a head-on crash. Maximum points were scored for child occupants in the side impact test,” ANCAP said.
More than its crash structure, the Model 3 scored 94 percent for Safety Assist which is the highest score currently realised under current protocols.
“This is an impressive result, and great to see electric vehicles continuing to prioritise safety” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, James Goodwin.
“It is encouraging to see Tesla give equal attention to the active safety systems and technologies on board as well as the safety fundamentals through the structure and restraints,” Goodwin said.
The Audi A6 scored 93 percent for its adult occupant protection, 85 percent for child occupant protection but only 78 percent for safety assist, compared with the 94 percent for the Tesla Model 3. ANCAP marked the A6 down because it didn’t have a Speed Limit Information Function; in other areas it scored either 3 out of 3 or very close to full marks with its active safety features rated as performing well in test situations.
“The Audi A6 offers a good mix of safety systems for adults, children and other road users,” Goodwin added.
