With HSV and Holden committing to a relaunch of the Chevrolet brand in Australia, the Chevrolet Camaro 2SS might be the kick-start the brand needs.
WITH AUSTRALIANS AND HSV NOW turning towards SUVs and 4x4s, the announcement of the worst kept secret in motoring, that the Camaro 2SS was coming to Australia, might give Ford’s Mustang some real competition. Or, it might be a little too late…
Under the bonnet of the Camaro 2SS is a 6.2-litre V8 petrol making up to 340kW and 615Nm of torque. This is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. HSV hasn’t said what changes it’ll make to the car beyond moving the steering wheel from one side to the other, but we do know it runs Performance suspension and Brembo brakes.
It also gets are High Intensity Discharge (HID) head-lights and LED Daytime Running Lights and 20-inch, 5-split-spoke alloys (8.5-inch front and 9.5-inch rear) wrapped in 245/40ZR20 (front) and 275/35ZR20 (rear) Goodyear Eagle tyres.
The interior of the Camaro 2SS offers power-adjustable heated and ventilated leather-trimmed front sports bucket seats, and a leather-wrapped, flat-bottom sports-profile steering wheel. There’s dual-zone automatic climate control, a nine-speaker Bose premium audio and 24-colour interior spectrum lighting. The Camaro gets a head-up display and HSV will have its work cut out for it remaking and trimming the entire dashboard as a mirror image of the machine you can buy in the US.
HSV hasn’t confirmed pricing and conversion work is slated to begin in July 2018, but you can expect there to be fair difference between the price of the car here and in the US due to the amount of conversion work required.
So if I understand correctly these will have to be converted to RHD since the current model is not being made in RHD, and this is why I assume the pricing is a rip-off $80K+. However, the next gen Camaro will be made in RHD and theoretically they should be a lot cheaper, similar to Mustang pricing. When is the next gen Camaro coming out and will that model be sold in normal Holden dealerships as well?
Much nicer car than Mustang inside and out but not at that price and you’ll need to be extremely quick to get one, and I’ll bet pricing will unofficially hit $100K
