Safest used cars you can buy…
The Monash University Accident Research Centre looks at car crash statistics from 1990 to 2015 to determine a list of the safest used cars you can buy.
THE 2017 USED CAR SAFETY RATING is based on car crash statistics from 1990 to 2015 where someone was either killed or seriously injured. The ratings for each car are based on the vehicle’s safety performance related to its design with those recommended as a ‘Safer Pick’ determined to provide “excellent protection to their own driver and cause less serious injury to other road users,” according to the Used Car Safety Ratings website.
When it comes to buying a used car then you absolutely want to ensure the vehicle you’re considering has traction and stability controls, airbags and seatbelts with pretension devices. If you’re looking at something newer and more expensive then, for added safety look for features like blind spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, reversing camera and sensors front and rear.
We gone through the Used Car Safety Ratings list for 2017 and selected only the Safer Pick vehicles across a range of categories. What’s a Safer Pick? “Only vehicles which provide excellent protection to their own driver, cause less serious injury to other drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists in a collision and have a lower risk of being involved in a crash achieve a ‘Safer Pick’ rating.”
We’ve included a selection of images illustrating the vehicles selected as a Safer Pick.
