Nissan D40 Navara recalled in Australia – 41,373 vehicles affected
Nissan is recalled 41,373 Nissan D40 Navaras because of an issue with the driver’s side airbag which could scatter metal fragments inside the cabin upon deployment.
NISSAN HAS ANNOUNCED a recall on all Nissan D40 Navaras built between 2008 and 2014 (built in Thailand) which totals 41,373 vehicles. If you want to check that your vehicle is involved, the VIN range begins with MNT and runs from: MNT*C*D40A0000009 to MNT*C*D40A0603279
Nissan said the reason for the recall is that: “The propellant tablets in some of the subject inflators may experience an alteration over time, which could potentially lead to over-aggressive combustion in the event of an air bag deployment. Depending on the circumstances, this potential condition could create excessive internal pressure when the air bag is deployed, which could result in the body of the inflator rupturing upon deployment”.
If this was to happen, Nissan said “Abnormal front driver airbag deployment or metal fragment scatter may pose a hazard to the occupants of the vehicle.
Nissan said it will contact owners within the affected VIN range “once parts availability is confirmed” to arrange the replacement of the front passenger airbag inflator which will be performed at no cost to the owner.
