Toyota has revealed a bunch of modified vehicles at SEMA this week, but the 2000hp Toyota Land Speed Cruiser is probably the most… ridiculous.

WE TRY AND PLAY a straight bat at Practical Motoring, but when this story came over the wire we couldn’t help but wonder what Toyota was thinking. Sure, SEMA is all about weird and whacky, but a 2000hp LandCruiser 200 Series that’s been dumped on its guts, hmmm.

Anyway, we want to know what you think, leave a comment below.

Toyota said: “the Land Speed Cruiser is a low-slung, purpose-built sled of a vehicle capable of generating more than 2000hp and a top speed of 220mph (350+km/h) that leaves most sports cars in the dust”.

“From the outside, the Land Speed Cruiser appears quite normal, quite subtle,” said motorsports technical center manager Chuck Wade, who built this vehicle with his team of engineers. “This is what makes it so special. Every single system and component has been touched. The trick is getting the body back onto the heavily modified frame.”

The key to the Land Speed Cruiser’s performance are the two “volleyball-sized” Garret turbochargers on each bank of cylinders. The engine is linked to an ATI transmission.

“I love the challenge of taking a vehicle and making it stronger, faster,” Wade added. “Making something beyond outrageous keeps me coming back for more.”

“With the Land Speed Cruiser, we are breaking all of the normal conventions of what an SUV should be,” said Steve Appelbaum, Toyota Motor Sales national engagement marketing manager. “This is a vehicle is truly a feat of engineering.”

No, Toyota, this is a vehicle that’s a feat of engineering

  1. To draw attention away from how ugly the rest of the Toyota fleet looks. This is up there with the biggest styling turds I’ve ever seen, well done Toyota another home run.

  2. If it could hit 220mph and still be as capable offroad as a stocker then that would truly be a feat of engineering…..
