Without any major cosmetic changes Nissan hopes improved, locally-tuned suspension and a tough new SL dual-cab model will be enough to keep the Navara Series 2 competitive.

NISSAN HAS LAUNCHED the Navara Series 2 which brings improved suspension on some models, new dual-cab SL variant and departure of the ‘NP300 Navara’ name for simpler ‘Navara’.

The ride and handling improvements apply to dual-cab models fitted with five-link coil-spring rear suspension. The suspension has been locally tuned (and enhanced) to provide better on-road manners and improved handling under load on Australian roads. Changes have been made to the front and rear shock absorbers and to the rear rebound dampers.

Nissan says, “the result is a more refined ride and handling with improved lateral stability, especially when carrying a load in the cargo area or towing, thanks for greater firmness compared to the Series 1 Navara.”

The new SL model slides in between the RX and ST models as a tough and rugged workhorse with steel rims and hose out interior. As a dual cab model it receives the revised 5-link coil-sprung suspension and is powered by Navara’s most powerful diesel, a twin-turbo 2.3-litre four-cylinder producing 140kW and 450Nm. Extra gear for SL includes rear-view camera and LED lights.

Other changes in the model range include sunroof option for ST-X, sat-nav as standard on ST and a choice of either manual or automatic transmission for RX cab chassis. However dual cab models no longer get rear fold-out cup holders.

And this updated version of the Navara, our most popular Nissan model in Australia, delivers more of what they’ve asked for.”
