Ageing Kia Sorento will soon be replaced with an all-new model.

KIA IS PREPARING to launch its latest flagship SUV in 2020, a new Sorento that will likely sport bold new styling and a hybrid powertrain.

While the South Korean brand isn’t saying much about the new model, Kia Australia COO Damien Meredith confirmed to Practical Motoring that the current model that arrived in 2015 is set to be replaced.

“Sorento’s time is up, so it’s pending,” Meredith said.

But as this is such an important model for the company, Meredith wouldn’t be dragged into further comments around what else we can expect.

Fortunately, there is plenty of information already out there that points to what we can expect. For starters it’s expected to feature a step forward in design, most likely taking elements of the new Seltos small SUV but pushing them even further as the brand pushes for a more premium image.

It’s also widely tipped that the Sorento will get a new plug-in hybrid powertrain as the brand begins to transition towards electrification. New or updated versions of the 3.5-litre V6 petrol and 2.2-litre turbo diesel are also expected to continue.

The new Sorento is expected to break cover sometime early in 2020 before reaching Australia either late in the year or early 2021.
