BMW’s larger 2 Series Convertible arrives early 2015
The BMW 2 Series Convertible will go on-sale in 2015 after its public debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show next month (October).
BMW AUSTRALIA will launch the drop-top locally from February 2015 in the form of the 220i Convertible, 228i Convertible, 220d Convertible and M235i Convertible. Pricing hasn’t been announced.
Replacing the 1 Series Convertible, the 2 Series drop-top is slightly larger than its predecessor, offers more luggage space and promises easier access to the back seats. The vehicle length has grown by 72mm (to 4432mm), width is up by 26mm (to 1774mm) and the wheelbase has grown by 30mm (to 2690mm). Luggage space, as mentioned, has increased by 30 litres to 335 litres with the roof closed, or 280 litres with the roof stowed.
In terms of engines and performance, both the 220i and 228i Convertible run a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 135kW/270Nm and 180kW/350Nm, respectively. The M235i Convertible has a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with 240kW and 450Nm. The 220d Convertible runs a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel four-cylinder engine producing 140kW/400Nm. Fuel consumption across the range runs from 3.8L/100km (diesel) through 6.1-6.8L/100km combined (220i and 228i) and 8.5L/100km for the M235i Convertible. All of these engines are offered standard with a six-speed manual but can be cost-optioned with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
From launch there will be four model variants available, including Advantage, Luxury Line, Sport Line and M Sport, and each one will offer the buyers to choose from specific interior and exterior design elements and equipment features.
