Local details and indicative pricing for the soon-to-launch Mazda CX-9 have been leaked online, with pricing suggested to range from $49,000 to $71,500.

THE MAZDA CX-9 is expected to launch in Australia shortly and while the vehicle is on-sale in other countries, Mazda Australia is keeping local details tightly under wraps. Or so it thought. Practical Motoring has seen documents outlining indicative pricing and details for the four variant line-up.

According to the leaked internal-use document the Mazda CX-9 will be powered by one engine only, a 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine making 170kW at 5000rpm and 420Nm at 2000rpm. This will be mated to a six-speed automatic and will be offered with both manual shift and Sport mode. Fuel consumption is a claimed 8.4L/100km (FWD) and 8.8L/100km (AWD) which the document claims is “best in class listed and real-world fuel economy”.

And Mazda is correct if comparing only petrol-powered seven-seat SUVs, because the diesel-powered Kia Sorento, to take just one example, undercuts the petrol-powered CX-9 with its very-close-in-output diesel engine returning 7.8L/100km combined.

The CX-9 will be offered with the usual Mazda colours as well as the new Machine Grey that made its debut on MX-5. In terms of the practicalities the document we’ve seen suggests the CX-9 will offer nearly flat folding seats and four child seat anchor points, suggesting two in the second row and two in the third row. The CX-9 is a seven seater.

One of the documents we’ve seen suggests “indicative” pricing of:

CX-9 Sport FWD: $49,000

CX-9 Sport AWD $53,000

CX-9 Touring FWD $56,500

CX-9 Touring AWD $60,500

CX-9 GT FWD $64,500

CX-9 GT AWD $68,500

CX-9 GT Azami FWD $67,500

CX-9 GT Azami AWD $71,500
