The 2018 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 can hit 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds with deliveries expected to start here at the end of the year.

THE MERCEDES-AMG GLC 63 (in both 4MATIC+ SUV and Coupe variants) will become Australia’s fastest SUV when deliveries begin Down Under towards the end of this year. Mercedes-AMG, for the first time, has made its 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo engine available to the GLC range, producing 375kW at 5500-6250rpm and 700Nm of torque from 1750-4500rpm. This engine will be mated to a nine-speed automatic which debuted in the E 63 4MATIC+.

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ SUV is priced at $164,900(+ORC), while the GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ Coupé is priced at $171,900(+ORC). An Exterior Carbon Package includes AMG carbon-fibre mirror housings and an AMG carbon-fibre rear lip spoiler on the Coupé, or an extension on the SUV. This package is priced at $4500 (MRLP). An AMG High Performance Ceramic Braking System offers a compound ceramic front disc with a diameter of 402 x 39 mm and a six-piston fixed caliper, while the 360 x 26 mm rear integral brake disc has a single-piston combined floating brake caliper. The braking system is priced at $7500 (MRLP).

Besides being quick to the legal limit, the tricked-up GLC twins will feature air spring suspension with adaptive dampers, “AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive with fully variable torque distribution, a rear-axle limited-slip differential, and a high-performance braking system”.

“For us, the new GLC 63 4MATIC+ is a quite special vehicle. It is no easy job designing an SUV to be highly sporty and dynamic while at the same time offering inherent extreme driving stability,” said Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

“This required us to put our heart and soul, along with our many years of SUV expertise, into the development of this vehicle. The result is an SUV that can be driven with high precision and agility and which, if required, is equally at home on a high-speed lap of the race track.”

Drivers will be able to select from five different driving modes, “Comfort, Sport, Sport +, Race and Individual allow the driver to extensively influence the characteristics of the GLC 63 S 4MATIC+. This modifies key parameters, such as the response of engine, transmission, suspension, steering, ESP and all-wheel drive”.
