Mitsubishi unveils the 2015 Mitsubishi Triton in Thailand, boasting a new engine, improved quality and sound insulation.

MITSUBISHI MOTORS has unveiled its all-new 2015 Mitsubishi Triton at a media event in Thailand. Seen for the first time in production trim the new Triton looks familiar with its rounded corners, although the new headlights and grille give it a more premium appearance.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Executive Director of Marketing Tony Principe said the new generation Triton is designed to successfully perform the dual role of work truck and family car.

“The 2015 Triton is part of a new breed of Mitsubishi vehicles that reflect the sizable investment we are making in the development of world-class SUV and light commercial vehicles,” he said.

“New Triton makes a significant leap forward in all areas, particularly in terms of passenger comfort, manoeuvrability and efficiency, and still delivers on the toughness, reliability and off-road performance that have made Triton such a success in Australia.”

Under the bonnet is a new all-aluminium 2.4-litre MIVEC turbo-diesel engine with variable geometry turbo (133kW and 430Nm), paired to a new six-speed manual transmission or optional five-speed automatic. Beyond this new engine, there will be a range of engines available for the Triton, although it’s likely here in Australia we’ll only get the diesel engine: 2.4-litre petrol four-cylinder 94 W/194Nm; 2.5-litre turbo-diesel 94kW/240Nm; 2.5-litre turbo-diesel 131kW/400Nm of torque.

Mitsubishi claims the 2015 Triton is more refined than ever before with considerable attention paid to ride and handling, interior comfort and noise and vibration handling. “The strategic placement of sound insulation, absorption and vibration damping materials contributes to significantly improved cabin quietness,” a statement read.

The 2015 Triton will be built in Thailand for Australia and will be sold in 150 countries across ASEAN, Oceania, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Latin America in coming months. Pricing and full details will be announced closer to the launch in mid-2015.
