The 2015 Mazda MX-5 has launched in Australia with prices starting from $31,990 (+ORC) which is just $2000 more than the 1989 NA original.

THE MX-5 HAS notched up almost 17,000 sales in Australia since the original launched in 1989. Now, the fourth generation 2015 Mazda MX-5 has arrived with prices starting from $31,990 (+ORC) and two trim grades: Roadster and Roadster GT.

While the MX-5 will be available with two engines and two transmissions, only the 1.5-litre four-cylinder (96kW and 150Nm) is available from launch and comes with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission – it drinks (with the manual) just 6.1L/100km. The 2.0-litre engine (118kW and 200Nm) will feature in the Roadster GT and will be available soon – the Roadster GT can be had with both the 1.5L and 2.0L engines.

Weighing from 1009kg, the ND is more than 90kg lighter than its predecessor (the NC), “and a new suspension system improves turn-in ability, stability when braking and control when cornering,” says Mazda. Mazda has added double pinion electronic power steering the MX-5, a first for the brand.

Mazda’s MZD Connect with seven-inch touchscreen is a cost-option on the entry-level Roadster and standard on the Roadster GT. Available in six colours, including the iconic Soul Red and the recently introduced Ceramic Metallic, the range comes with three interior trims, including black cloth for the Roadster and a choice of black or tan leather in Roadster GT.
